The volume the pump can move vs the speed that volume returns to the pan. The oil pressure drops when the pump starts picking up air. 1 qt low isnt a huge deal at all for a short period. Beyond that is where you run the risk of issues if not filled soon.Also check and verify your oil life post oil change as the service provider should have reset the maintenance minder to 100%. Generally they are pretty good about this, and if they did not, then your MM display will default on the instrument panel on engine start as long as oil life is 15% or less.
